The Migrations initiative funds research and engagement on Cornell's campus and in the community and builds connections between scholars on migration topics.

Funded Research

Since 2020, we've awarded over $1 million to support faculty research addressing wide-ranging questions around domestic and global migration. Funded projects reflect the Migrations initiative’s interdisciplinary priorities of racism, dispossession and migration in the United States—supported by the Mellon Foundation’s Just Futures Initiative—and international, multispecies migration.

Migrations Summer Institute

Open to early-career scholars

Our annual summer institute, co-sponsored by the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies, immerses early-career scholars in the study of racism, dispossession, and migration in a collaborative space. Each year, the institute addresses a new topic under the leadership of a faculty researcher.

This year's institute will look closely at migration, militarism, and U.S. empire.
